UL Electric Glider Silent AE-1

The future-proof, self-launching UL club class glider Silent AE1, built in 2001, with only approx. 200 flight hours, featuring a Geiger HPD 20 kW motor (50 hrs) and 9.3 kWh battery, JNP 10/2026. This legendary electric glider was celebrated in 1999 as the world's first production electric aircraft, and was electrified by Stefan Gehrmann from the Italian Alisport Silent airframe in a limited number of units – at that time still with NiCd cells. From 2019 to 2023, it was equipped with current drive components, including the Geiger HPD 20 kW motor and 3 x 3.1 kWh Geiger lithium-ion batteries, and kept technically up to date. The Silent AE1 holds a supplemental type certificate as an UL. With a wingspan of 12 m, this fine glider achieves a glide ratio of 31 (at 95 km/h) and is perfect for independent thermal soaring in the club class, without relying on launch infrastructure such as winch or aerotow – however, it is also suitable for aerotow with a nose coupling. Particularly future-oriented: when using solar power, it flies CO2-free. Low energy consumption: approx. 1.5 kWh for one launch to 400 m.
